This year the pipe was legit as all get out, it looked like it had been touched by an angel, every lip & landing had been built up higher, steeper & jumps had been pushed back farther so the whole course worked a lot better.
Friday was practice & qualifying for the invited Aussies - dudes definitely got some practice in & rode faster than they have in a while - come qualifying & it was a different story though. A complete stop. Cyclone backlash rain stopped the whole event in it's tracks & for the rest of the day & the whole Saturday it wasn't any different a story. So for the Friday & Saturday it turned into Red Bull wild pipe where dudes partied down & waited for the rain to subside. It finally did on Sunday, everyone had a ride at the local park but Fitty & I bailed for work on Monday; Raine & Chris stayed on for Monday & Tuesday (Raine was shooting for 2020/shredding bikes unofficially), so I couldn't tell you much about that part cause I wasn't there, but Raine's slide show below will fill you in a little more. I shot some photos as well, check them out cause I'm done typing.
Huge thumbs up to Bentley, Jared & Hugh for dialing the pipe in better than it has been - let's hope for next year!
The pipe - with a storm looming.
Damo Connolly was flipping out! Killing it.
Donges is on the team! Massive turndown on the step up.
Local knowledge. Lee has got some serious trails just over the way from the pipe that he took us out to. Awesome.
Will Gunn was more hungover than anyone I saw & yet got on his bike & absolutely killed it, both time & the park, on Sunday while the pipe was drying. Reaching for the sun in a 360 over a 4.5ft spine.
